Who We Are

Owned by the Italian Frandino Group and originally founded in the 1950s as a fruit distillery, Sedamyl has grown to become one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of wheat derivatives such as starches, sweeteners, proteins and alcohol for major food and industrial sectors worldwide. In 2012 the group expanded its international presence by opening a plant in Selby, UK.


What We Do

Sedamyl UK, uses Yorkshire-grown wheat in its production, which is purchased from a network in excess of 1,000 local farmers, so providing a valuable and sustained revenue stream. The announcement in 2021 to invest a further £80m in expanding both its distilling and liquid sweetener production, significantly boosts an already growing workforce to around 150 employees, creating in excess of 75 new jobs for the area.


What we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced Grain Trader to be responsible for every aspect of the trading process for the purchasing of grain and raw materials, the selling of our co-products and monitoring market trends. Commercial awareness is a must along with the ability to nurture existing client/supplier base, whilst having the drive to develop new business relationships.

In your role, you will:

  • Have direct involvement in the day-to-day logistics and execution of grain contracts and LIFFE future trading
  • Be responsible for the purchasing of wheat and raw materials to be used in the manufacturing of alcohol and wheat derivative products
  • Manage and drive sales of our co-products from bran through to stillage
  • Manage existing contracts and developing new one
  • Ensure all raw material market analysis, pricing and competitor knowledge is up to date
  • Assist in the planning & monitoring of grain purchasing to reach the annual sales expectation
  • Successfully develop trade with a wide range of raw material merchants


Skills & Knowledge

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working within a raw material purchasing department
  • Previous experience in grain buying or agricultural sales
  • LIFFE/MATIF futures trading knowledge and experience desirable
  • Ideally educated to degree level in a related field e.g., Economics, Engineering Financial Trading & Investment
  • Natural ability to build and develop strong business relationships
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Proficient in problem solving, with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Clean driving licence
