Sedamyl Recruits to Support Expansion Plans
Yorkshire business will create 75 jobs to support local economy and supply chain
Selby-based family-run agribusiness Sedamyl is looking for new team members to fill a number of roles and supporting its rapidly expanding workforce to support its current expansion project.
Amid a year of unprecedented challenges for the UK economy, Sedamyl – one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of proteins, alcohol, starches, and sweeteners – has announced an £80million investment which will see its Yorkshire plant double its potable alcohol capacity and add new lines for the production of liquid sweeteners. The expansion will create up to 75 jobs and support hundreds more in the supply chain.
As well as recruitment opportunities, the expansion plans will see the Italian firm double UK production, add new product lines, and provide an increased market for wheat grown by local farmers. The firm is looking for a variety of roles to support the operations including shift operators and logistics staff along with lab technicians, mechanics, and engineers.
In the past decade, Sedamyl’s workforce has expanded from just 40 people in 2012 to nearly 100 in 2021 and the firm has a strong reputation for delivering career development opportunities, delivering impressively high staff retention rates within its diverse team.
Ross Glover has worked at Sedamyl for seven years, spending time as a Shift Operator before becoming a Technical Operator.
He said: “The best thing about working at Sedamyl is being given the opportunity to progress within a company that’s growing so rapidly and to feel like a valued member of the team. It’s rare to be part of an expansion of this size and see all the accomplishments along the way, and I expect the company to continue to grow and succeed year on year, developing the workforce as it does so.”
Elena Frandino, Managing Director at Sedamyl UK and a member of family that has owned the business for 60 years, said: “Over the years we have built a solid reputation in Selby and are now a major local employer, and that is all down to our incredible team of dedicated staff. We know how important it is to retain the very best workers and have invested heavily to ensure we offer an attractive package and a positive workplace culture.
“This latest development means we can continue to recruit to support our team and the local economy, whilst maintaining our position as one of the leading UK manufacturers of sweeteners, starches and derivatives.”
Sedamyl has recently been shortlisted in the Emerging Business category at the 2021 Food and Drink Federation Awards in recognition of its growth and investment in the business. For more information about Sedamyl or to apply for a vacancy, visit LinkedIn.
